A Day to Remember: University Meadows Celebrates Memorial Day 2026

What a Monday it was! The University Meadows Neighborhood Association gathered together on May 25, 2026 for our annual Memorial Day Party — and it was truly one for the books. From the excitement of the Kids Bike Parade to the moving Veterans Presentation, to the laughter and fun that filled the afternoon, our neighborhood showed up and showed out.

The Parade Kicks Things Off

The morning started with energy and color as kids lined up at the corner of Creighton & Chesley with their beautifully decorated bikes and ride-on vehicles. Neighbors lined the route cheering and waving, and the smiles on those kids' faces said it all. It was the perfect way to kick off the day.

Honoring Those Who Served

We paused to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day with a heartfelt Veterans Presentation. We were honored to have Lieutenant Colonel Carl Wiley, U.S. Army (Ret) address our community with a powerful and inspiring message that reminded us all of the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve our country.

The presentation was made even more special by Christiana Adeleke, JROTC Cadet from Lake Highlands High School, who gave a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. What a talent — we were so fortunate to have her with us.

In honor of our fallen service members and to close the Veterans Presentation, Eagle Scout Noah Weems played a moving rendition of Taps. This was made all the more poignant by the fact that his grandfather, Greg Schmitz, is one of our neighborhood's veterans and an invaluable member of our neighborhood's board. It was a meaningful and moving moment shared together as a community — a reminder of why we gather and who we honor.

Food, Fun & Festivities

Activities were in full swing with something for everyone. The kids had an absolute blast, and honestly, so did the adults. The energy throughout the afternoon was incredible.

Events like this are only possible because of a neighborhood full of wonderful people. Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, cheered from the sidelines, and made this day so special. A huge thank you to our amazing Boy Scout volunteers.
